From VSG to Bochumer Verein
The past few years have seen far-reaching changes take place. Restructuring of the major steel makers has also left its mark on the Bochum-based enterprise, including its sister companies. After a phase of uncertainty, confidence in a future offering innovation and growth has also finally returned with the restoration of the old name.
Chronology 1988-1998
- 1988
Merger between Schmiedewerke Krupp Klöckner GmbH and the downstream processing activities of Thyssen Henrichshütte AG to form Vereinigte Schmiedewerke GmbH (VSG), with sites in Bochum, Essen, Hattingen, Hagen, Krefeld and Osnabrück
- 1991
September: VSG takes over the shares in Radsatzfabrik Ilsenburg GmbH (Rafil)
December: Authorisation of the takeover by the Federal Cartel Office;
transfer of corporate activities to VSG Energie- und Schmiedetechnik GmbH, VSG Verkehrstechnik GmbH and Deutsche Titan GmbH as a wholly owned subsidiary of Vereinigte Schmiedewerke GmbH
- 1994
Hot-forming business in Bochum: automation of charging and discharging machinery at rotary hearth furnace; automation of manipulation in wheel and wheel centre manufacture, refurbishment of wheel rolling mill including introduction of new rolling strategies and design guides
- 1995
Bankruptcy of Vereinigte Schmiedewerke GmbH, but continued operation of subsidiaries
- 1998
VSG Verkehrstechnik GmbH becomes a legally independent and autonomously operating partner company in the Georgsmarienhütte Group of Companies
September: at the proposal of several employees, restoration of the traditional name of Bochumer Verein Verkehrstechnik GmbH
