Wheelset axles
These safety-critical components are developed, designed, fabricated and machined in Bochum.
The wheelset shafts themselves are forged on a long forging machine or under an open-die forging hammer, rough-turned and, as applicable, finish hollow-drilled for Bochumer Verein by Bahntechnik Brand-Erbisdorf GmbH, a further member of the Railway Wheels and Wheelsets business unit within the GMH group of companies. They are used in all rail vehicles, ranging from trams, to high-speed trains, through to heavy goods locomotives operating with very high wheelset loads.
